(ASSOCIATION) SPREADS AWARENESS ABOUT THE FOOD SAFETY PRACTICES DURING SEPTEMBER'S NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY EDUCATION MONTH® 2007
"Foodborne Pathogens: Your Family's Health is in Your Hands"

(Insert Your City) - [Association/Organization Name] announced today it will partner with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) to participate in the 2007 National Food Safety Education Month®, this September, to showcase its commitment to food safety education and training. This year's theme, " Foodborne Pathogens: Your Family's Health is in Your Hands," focuses on the importance of cleanliness in preparing food safely.

Originally created by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s International Food Safety Council, to build awareness of food safety in the restaurant and foodservice industry, National Food Safety Education Month has expanded to heighten consumer awareness about the importance of safe food handling practices.

(Include a paragraph on what your association is doing to promote NFSEM, or how you are participating in this national campaign. For example, will your association:

  • Organize food safety education activities for consumers and school children.
  • Offer additional food safety training classes for your members food service personnel.
  • Offer re-certification opportunities for managers already certified.
  • Hold a food safety awareness day or event – involving your members who are leaders in food safety education and training.
  • Conduct a comprehensive media campaign showcasing operations that go above and beyond to ensure safe food handling in your community.
  • Issue a Governor's proclamation declaring September food safety month in your state.)
  • Promote National Food Safety Education Month® in your association's newsletter or magazine, Web site or Intranet for members encouraging them to go to the National Food Safety Education Month Web site <http://www.foodsafety.gov/september>, NRAEF Web site <http://www.nraef.org/nfsem/>, or your Web site to learn about quick, easy preparation activities to use to educate their employees and customers.
  • Create a display to use in your office lobby or at industry events to promote National Food Safety Education Month® and how industry members can get involved.
  • Create special letterhead and fax cover sheets for internal and external correspondence throughout September using the NFSEM® logo provided by the NRAEF.
